The film is a richly detailed, cinematic combination of live action and CGI. A charming, timeless, human story, set in a created land based on our own modern World, but one in which Giants might roam and fairytales might take place - a Carpathian landscape of chocolate box mountains, dense enchanted forests and ancient rivers and lakes.
In our particular corner of this beautiful land, on the bank of a huge meandering river separating and protecting it from the un-tamed wilds, lies a strangely beautiful concrete, steel and glass “man-made” city. The city has a familiarity to it, dense and full of skyscrapers, but contained and surrounded not by suburbs but by rolling hills, forests, and the river – a magical setting much like the Emerald city of Oz.
